Let them be little
A recent trip to the East Coast of Canada had us in the car a lot. We had such a lovely time in Newfoundland visiting family, which included a fantastic family wedding. We decided that on the way home, we would take an extra day and stop on Prince Edward Island for a couple of nights. The goal was to get a bit of R and R before spending the next day in the car. It was worth every moment, exploring the red sandy beaches and letting our kids be kids! I took my camera along for the day, simply observing and allowing them to be themselves.

The Story of Painted Turtle Photography
When I began this business just over a year ago, I wanted a name that depicted both me and my mission. Painted Turtle reflects my children, their love of nature, and their peaceful spirits. We spend a lot of time in nature, and the photographs that mean the most to me are the ones in which they are interacting with their surroundings, and those in which we are interacting with each other. This day of observation in an otherwise busy trip was perfectly reflective of that.
Appreciating their little-ness
Soon enough, their little fingers and toes will grow. They may wish to cut their hair. They may develop new interests. They may not want to spend hours digging tunnels for their new friend the hermit crab, or narrating exactly what it feels like to walk into the warm water on a windy day. But, these memories in nature are forever etched into their minds and hearts.
Since we had the wedding attire, we snuck into the frame at the end of the day. It's an equally important part of the story.
